3 Telecommunications Unit over its life was responsible for organising postings to meet its own special requirements.  These postings included Singapore, Labuan and Hong Kong.  But 3 Telecommunications Unit was still part of the Royal Australian Air Force and as such was required to also meet postings to places that were outside its normal responsibility.   As a result of this  a number of members served in Vung Tau and Nui Dat in Vietnam.
